Days until Election Day
A campaign that talks about representation has to be usable by the people it wants to represent. Here is what this site does, what it does not yet do, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act in most enforcement, and it is the bar we hold ourselves to rather than a best effort.
Conformance is measured, not asserted. Every colour pairing has been checked for contrast, every page has been operated by keyboard alone, and the markup has been checked for landmark structure, heading order, and form labelling.
Partially conformant. The design and code meet the standard. Content added after launch, such as photographs, embedded video and uploaded documents, depends on the campaign staff who add it. The known gaps are listed below rather than papered over.
We do not use an accessibility overlay widget, the kind that adds a floating icon offering high-contrast mode, bigger text, and a “screen reader profile.” Disability advocates have consistently found that these products interfere with the assistive technology people already own and configure, and sites using them have been sued at a higher rate than sites without them. We would rather fix the site than install something that claims to fix it.

None of this requires you to turn anything on, install anything, or use a special version of the site.
Every link, button, form field, menu, and dialog can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, in a logical order. Focus is always visible, a thick outline, never removed.
The first thing a keyboard or screen reader user meets is a skip link, so nobody has to tab through the whole navigation on every page.
Every text and background pairing has been measured. The lowest ratio on the site is 4.7:1 against a 4.5:1 requirement. Nothing relies on colour alone to carry meaning.
Type is sized in relative units, so it responds to your browser’s text size setting and to zoom up to 200% without content being cut off or overlapping.
If your system is set to reduce motion, this site honors it: transitions, smooth scrolling, and movement are switched off automatically.
Real landmarks, one main heading per page, headings in order, lists marked as lists, and every form field tied to a visible label.
Listed because a statement that claims full conformance and cannot back it is worse than no statement.

Tell us what you need when you RSVP: step-free access, ASL interpretation, seating, a quiet space, large-print materials, and we will arrange it. Ask as early as you can so we have time to get it right, but ask late rather than not at all.
Texas law guarantees an accessible voting system at every polling place, curbside voting if you cannot enter the building, and assistance from a person of your choice. Voters who are disabled may also qualify to vote by mail.
